Biopsies

Biopsies and Fine Needle Aspirations (FNA) are procedures utilised to obtain tissue or cell samples for pathological examination. Biopsies involve the removal of a small amount of tissue for microscopic examination. Imaging modalities, such as ultrasound, is used to guide the biopsy needle to the region of interest. Fine needle aspiration is a less invasive procedure compared to a core biopsy. It involves using a thin, hollow needle to extract cells from a suspicious area, which are then examined cytologically. FNAs are particularly useful for sampling superficial masses or lymph nodes and are commonly used in the evaluation of thyroid nodules, breast lumps, and lymph nodes.
